Tipp perfect 4-0 on Florida baseball trip

It was a perfect way to start the season for the Tippecanoe baseball team, as they traveled to Florida to participate in their annual spring break trip. The Red Devils finished 4-0 and enjoyed a great week of baseball before heading back home to open their home schedule this week.

Tipp opened their spring break trip with a 10-1 rout of Hudson as Peyton Schutz won his opening game of the season on the mound, pitching five innings and giving up only three hits with seven strikeouts. The Red Devils had eight hits and played stellar defense behind Schultz in the win.

Tipp scored four times in the second inning to set the tone and never looked back. Preston Zumwalt led the Red Devils with three hits on the day with Bryce Eckert adding two hits in the win.

Zumwalt and Schultz each knocked in two runs as the Red Devils started their season off the right way.

*The Red Devils broke open a tie game in the fifth with three runs in the bottom of the inning and defeated Chagrin Falls 7-5 in a battle of two Ohio clubs in Florida.

Cayden McKinney pitched four innings before Drew Husic closed out the game with three solid innings of relief, allowing only one run and a pair of hits, striking out six.

Landon Turner and Zumwalt each had a pair of hits for Tipp in the win, as the Red Devils scored three times in the third to erase an early 1-0 deficit. The aforementioned three runs scored in the fifth, but Tipp withstood a late rally to get their second win of the season.

Trailing 1-0, Jaxson Hill singled for Tipp in the third, and on the play, Eckert and Turner scored on an error. McKinney plated a third run with a single to drive home Zumwalt.

*Tipp dominated in their Thursday game on their Florida trip with a 19-1 rout of Breathitt County, scoring in every inning, including a big 11-run fourth inning as the Red Devils used a three-hitter from Carson Jackson for the win.

Offensively, Zumwalt continued his hot early-season hitting with three more hits and drove in four runs in the win. AJ Jergens also had three hits for Tipp while Schultz contributed two hits.

Zumwalt blasted a grand slam homerun in the second inning as the Red Devils scored five times to set the tone before closing out the game with a big fourth inning.

The Red Devils closed out their perfect week with an 11-1 win over Coosa Christian, as Eckert and Lucas Merry combined for a two-hit pitching performance in the victory.

Tipp recorded six hits in the win as they scored four times to open the game, and seven more runs in their final two at-bats.

The Red Devils travel to West Carrollton tonight before hosting the Pirates on Friday.
