Milton-Union MVCTC FFA kicks off the new semester with many events

The Milton-Union MVCTC FFA Chapter has been busy competing in Career Development Events (CDE’s). The Future Farmers of America educator, Suzanne Kimball, proudly shared some results.

“Two students competed in the County Public Speaking CDE. Emersyn Freisthler competed in the Creed Speaking contest, where she memorized and recited The FFA Creed.

Tessah Perkins competed in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE. In this category, the students receive their topic upon arrival and have 30 minutes to research and write a speech before presenting it to the judges. Emersyn won first place in her category and qualified for the District Public Speaking Contest. She finished in 4th place at the District 5 contest.

Four students also competed in the District 5 Ag Sales CDE for the first time in our chapter’s history. Luke Jones, Tessah Perkins, and Sophia Luciano were faced with the task of becoming sales representatives for a local trailer company and participated in mock sales.

All first-year students enrolled in the Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources course competed in the state-level Greenhand Quiz CDE online, where they put their FFA knowledge to the test.”

Emersyn Freisthler is currently a freshman at Milton-Union High School. Besides FFA, Freisthler is a member of cross country, golf, and track. Recently, she competed in the district 5 creed speaking contest, where she took first place at the county level! Moving onto districts, she came home with a 4th place, making her school and community proud.

“I’ve also participated in soil judging and will be doing the livestock judging CDE in March.”

Attending the National Convention, Farm Science Review, and FFA leadership Night are just a few of the hands-on opportunities Freisthler has participated in. Within her local chapter she attends meetings regularly. Also, this year she took part in pumpkin painting and green hand night. Looking forward to next year, Freisthler expressed her excitement. “I am planning on running for my chapter’s Vice President next year.”

The local chapter just completed selling strawberries and hosting a chili supper night. These two big fundraisers offer the students many learning experiences all year long.

“We are preparing for FFA week and our school’s Ag Day. Many of our members are preparing for our spring CDEs as well as State Convention!”

This year’s President, Emma Deeter, has earned a gold rating on her officer book this year. Deeter has earned her State FFA degree and is working towards her American. Along with her brother Eli, the Deeters’ have been top sellers in fundraisers.

The chapter celebrated National FFA Week from February 17 – 24 and looks forward to the future full of opportunities!
