Burgbacher selected to coach MVFCA game

Tippecanoe football coach Matt Burgbacher has been selected to coach the Miami Valley Football Coaches Association (MCFCA) team in their annual all-star game this summer. The staff is in the process of selecting the team that will represent the Dayton area in their game against the best that Cincinnati has to offer.

The all-star game will pit the MVFCA against the Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association (SOFCA), with the game being held this year at Centerville High School on June 7 at 7 p.m.

“Last year was the first year we switched over to play against the Cincinnati players, and it was a great game,” Burgbacher said, “I was able to go down to the game last year to see Stanley Clyne and Liam Poronsky, who pretty much dominated that game.”

The game used to be all kids from the Dayton area but it became too difficult and they expanded to include the Cincinnati teams.

“It was tough to get so many guys to play, so now the roster size is smaller. It is a great way for those guys (seniors) to have their last hurrah,” Burgbacher said. “The coaches in the Miami Valley get to nominate as many players as they would like. Our staff will sit down and start offering spots once everyone is nominated.”

During the first week in June, they will practice in the evening before going down to the stadium on Friday and playing.

Burgbacher said the coaching staff will consist of ten area coaches with a mix between head coaches and assistants.

“Some guys have voted to coach in numerous games, but I was selected by the MVFCA board,” he said. “The success we have had contributes to that and it is a great honor. I am excited.”

Burgbacher will have a big first week of June – he’ll be holding Tipp’s team camp in the morning then heading down for all-star practice.

Burgbacher said the game is nothing like the NFL Pro Bowl or the NBA all-star game.

“It is very competitive and it is still like the old ones,” Burgbacher said.

Burgbacher stated they will offer one player from each school who has paid their dues and is an active member of the MVFCA. Once a player is offered, if he cannot attend, they can be replaced with anyone they would like.
