West Milton – For The Record: History Lesson

The old Opera House/Buzz Theater is located at 15-17 S. Miami St. in West Milton. It was built in 1900 by W.H. Holsapple. Part of it was leased to the village for a jail, council room, and fire engine room. Upstairs was the lodge room for the Knights of Pythias #234.

In the 1920's, this was a movie theater, and in 1928 and 1929 the talkie movie became popular. It has also been a furniture store, jewelry store, and the town library.

At the time this picture was taken, the John Bookwalter family lived there in an apartment and he had his woodworking business on the ground floor called Artistry In Wood.

The present owner now lives there and, at great personal expense, has had a new metal roof installed. This building is a huge part of the historical legacy of the town.
